WHY OUR PHOTOS ARE A MUST-HAVE

At Ohana Surf Project, our photos aren’t just keepsakes—they’re part of the experience. Captured by instructors who double as photographers, our photos and videos are designed to make your lesson safer, more effective, and unforgettable.

Here’s what sets our photos apart:

  1. Unmatched Coaching Insight Our water photographers are trained instructors who use their front-row view of your wave rides to offer real-time tips and personalized feedback.
  2. On-Wave Support Need a little extra help? They’ll ride alongside you, providing coaching, encouragement, and even hands-on assistance when needed.
  3. Safety and Fun Guaranteed With an extra instructor in the water, your lesson is more organized, safer, and tailored to your needs—whether you’re a beginner, a young child, or just someone looking for a little extra support.
  4. Every Angle Covered Between water and land photography, we capture the entire story of your surf session.

PHOTOGRAPHY AT OHANA
SURF PROJECT

At Ohana Surf Project, we don’t just take photos to provide you with great memories and fun content to post, but also as a means to improve our lesson and the coaching we can provide.

We have a water photographer capturing photos during the lesson. From the water, we also capture videos of our students riding the waves. On larger lessons, we also have a land photographer helping to capture the fun times!

Our water photographer is, first and foremost, a coach and a member of our talented team of instructors. The instructor assigned to water photography is there to assist all of our students in the water. Photo sales allow us to have an additional instructor in the water, which helps keep the lessons safer for everyone and provides added coaching benefits, such as:

  • A coach who can see you riding the wave from a front angle, providing better feedback both during and after your ride.
  • A coach who can ride the wave alongside you, offering on-wave coaching, encouragement, and physical assistance if needed.
  • An extra coach who can help to keep the lesson more organized and aid in keeping our students safe and out of harm’s way.
  • An extra coach who can:
    • Assist with small and young children.
    • Support for novice or non-swimmers.
    • Help for students who want to return to the beach early.

In stand-up paddling and bodyboarding lessons, the instructors may also serve as photographers, taking footage while coaching throughout the lesson.

Our photo packages are affordable! We want everyone to be able to take home some memories.

We understand that not everyone wants to take home their photos or show their friends and family proof of their experience. Even so, we take photos of everyone. After the lessons, we gather as a group to view the footage. We use the photos and videos captured to enhance the learning experience.

We encourage everyone to view their photos, whether they want to purchase them or not—there is zero obligation to buy. We hold onto and back up the footage for at least a year in case customers decide to purchase it later or need replacement files.

Once purchased, photos are sorted by party and uploaded to a downloadable link containing all original digital files in their highest resolution. This link is typically ready by the following day but may take up to 48 hours. If customers need a few files sooner, we can often text or email them upon request. Customers will only receive photos and videos of themselves and their party (unless photobombing occurred).

For larger lessons, we also include a land photographer to capture all angles. Land photos are taken at the beginning of the lesson so the water photographer can focus on teaching students how to stay organized. If weather prevents land photography, we’ll ensure extra shots are taken from the water.

Want more photos? Are photos a priority for you? Want to save some money? We recommend pre-paying for your photos. While we take photos of everyone, prepayment ensures we focus on capturing a few extra for you. We also recommend signing up for the two-hour class—the more time in the water, the more photos and videos we’ll have time to take.

The number of photos and videos varies from lesson to lesson, but on average, each student receives about 50 files. This number can fluctuate depending on conditions. While we can’t guarantee a specific number of photos, we promise to always do our best to capture the fun moments. Our number one priority is keeping everyone safe, helping you succeed, and ensuring you have a great time. Once those priorities are met, we focus on taking photos and videos.
