Choosing the right equipment is essential for a successful and enjoyable surf session, especially for beginners. We’ll select the perfect longboard for your skill level, as longboards offer extra stability and make it easier to balance. These boards, typically 10 feet or longer, are ideal for catching smaller, gentler waves and provide more surface area for standing up and riding. You’ll also be equipped with a leash to keep your board close by and a rashguard to protect your skin from the sun and any board friction. With the right gear, you’ll be set up for a smooth and safe learning experience.

Surfing is not just about riding waves. Safety and proper etiquette are vital for a positive experience. Before hitting the water, we’ll teach you essential surfing etiquette, such as respecting the right of way, keeping the proper rotation for waves and where to sit when you need a break. You’ll also learn key safety tips, like keeping your board close, falling safely to avoid injury, and staying aware of your surroundings. These guidelines ensure a safe session for you and others while fostering a respectful and friendly surf culture.

Mastering paddling is one of the most crucial skills in surfing, as it allows you to catch waves, position yourself in the lineup, and move efficiently in the water. We’ll guide you through the proper paddling technique, focusing on long, smooth strokes to build momentum. The key is balance—positioning your body correctly on the longboard to reduce drag while maintaining a steady pace. We’ll also teach you how to paddle in a way that conserves energy while ensuring you can confidently make your way out to the lineup. With practice, paddling becomes second nature, giving you the strength and stamina to chase waves with ease.

Getting up and riding a wave is an exciting part of surfing! Your instructor will teach you the basics of how to get up on the surfboard in a multi step approach to ensure you are positioned properly on the board. As the wave approaches, paddle hard to match its speed. When you feel the wave lift the board, use the technique you have learned from your instructor to get up and go! We always say "Where you look is where you go!" so look forward, not down, to maintain balance and control.
